A new season, a new space for Spier Craft Market

We have a wonderful new space for the Craft Market at Spier this season. Find us on the picnic lawns below the Wine Centre, in a green area near the children’s playground, shaded by trees and protected from the weather. We’re loving the new circular layout which ensures all displays are equally visible and makes it easier for artists to chat amongst themselves and support one another when things get really busy.

The season has started with a bang! We’ve had a marvellous response – particularly from the international clientele at Spier - and all our artists have had good sales, which is great, after a long winter of dedicated work building up their stock.

A number of new artists have joined us alongside the established bestsellers from previous years and we’re loving the diversity and authenticity of the craft art on display. It’s a really multi-cultural space with everything locally produced, either 100% hand-made, or largely hand-made.

Our beautiful trophy heads and miniature masterpiece sculptures are once again in great demand. Look out for our new free-standing display panels which are totem-inspired. They were designed specifically for the trophy heads and bring a special energy to the Market space.

The Spier Craft Market is a commercial business operating as a sustainable social enterprise. All our artists share a vibrant creativity and an innovative approach to their craft. They are committed to the Market and appreciate the benefits offered by its unusual operating model which allows both emerging and established creatives to test their products and hone their business skills in an ‘incubator’ environment which is both competitive and strongly supported.

We’re planning to add more elements to the market as the season hots up, including a small sculpture garden and some children’s workshops over the summer holidays. As usual, several artists each day will be working on site, demonstrating their skills and always happy to chat to visitors about the making process.
